'Ton-up Kev' shows the SkillsTrain spirit

Published: 21st Sep 07

Skiing with 'inhelmet' radio guidance from his guide and ski buddy, Norman Clark, Kevin was aiming to break his own world record of 100.94mph and achieved an amazing 99.89mph on the day.

Despite being just a whisker away from the record, he managed three third places in major Alpine ski races this winter, the 'Super G', the Giant Slalom and a combined overall ski race and three first places in the French National Speed Ski Championships, the Red Rock Cup proSpeed Skiing and Pro Mondial Speed Masters Race.

Just shows what you can do with a little determination and a lot of guts!

In an interview for SkillsTrain Express Kevin said "When I first announced that I was going to set the world's first ever blind speed skiing world record in Italy back in 2005, everyone said I was mad, it couldn't be done and that I would never go ahead with it – but how wrong they were! Not only did I go onto set two world records in the sport, both the indoor and the outdoor, I managed to show my doubters just what could be done given the opportunity and determination to succeed."

In keeping with this spirit Kevin is planning two further world record attempts this summer Firstly, The Blind Land.

Speed World Record, organized in conjunction with The Royal London Society For The Blind when Kevin is attempting to break the existing record of 167 MPH in a Porsche GT2. And a World Record Blind Downhill Mountain Bike Descent of Ben Nevis during the World Bike Championships later this year.
